The Atmosphere / Summary

Very relaxed with emphasis on having a good time. The restaurant has seating for approximately 60 people and this is arranged to suit. Thus Hitchcock's is great for parties as you can ensure you are all sat together.

Music is played quietly in the background allowing conversation. Because there are people walking around helping themselves to food there is always much talking at Hitchcock's.

Detail

The food at Hitchcocks is to a chosen theme, this can be English, Italian, Indian, Russian, Jamaican, Argentinean; in fact it can be from any country in the world. The first person to book on a night gets to choose the theme. ER Vegans have come up with some very obscure countries and Hitchcocks have always come up with the goods (see a summary of what we have chosen).

There is one sitting at Hitchcocks and everyone thus eats together. Arriving at 8pm you will be shown to your table and served shortly afterwards with starters in keeping with the theme.

While you're eating your starters the serving area will be covered (and we mean covered!) with a large selection of food in keeping with the selected theme. This will be a mixture of main bits, appropriate vegetables and many other side dishes. You help yourself to these array of dishes, taking as much or as little as you desire. When you have cleared your plate you can go up again, and again and again. However don't eat too much at this stage because you will need room for the delicious deserts. These aren't to the nights theme and are typically chocolate gateaux, pecan pie, apple crumble, cheesecakes, fresh fruit salad and soya ice-cream.

You can then round this off with coffee or tea, including a great selection of fruit teas.

Notes

Bishop Lane is in the old part of the town where there are lots of nice traditional pubs. Many years ago it used to a nightclub called the Bavarian Beer Kellar and some of the older residents only know it as that.

Pub close by is The Black Boy - good selection of beer and a very traditional Hull pub.

Hitchcocks has a good selection of wines, including vegan ones. However you can bring your own wine to Hitchcocks if prefer. Corkage is £1 per bottle.

Cost

Hitchcocks is a fixed price restaurant. The cost is £19 per head excluding drinks. There is a reduced price unwaged people and a discount for vegan society members (other societies too - please ask).

The price is for as much as you can eat plus tea and coffee to follow.

Drinks are extra or you may bring your own wine for a £1 corkage fee.
