Every automation engineer should have a basic understanding of instrumentation. These books are particularly suited to automation engineers because what you need to know quickly and clearly.
Control theory is a complex subject and unfortunately good books on the subject are hard to find. Hopefully you will agree that the books recommended here explain control theory clearly.
These books are useful to have as a general reference particularly if you are working in certain areas. It include the most complete automation dictionary available.
With automation getting more and more sophisticated it is important to follow a proper design methodology, particularly for projects with a large software content.
